While in Onawa/Monona County this summer, be sure to stop by to see: Monona County Museum Complex located on 12th Street in Onawa. Many County and State Parks: Lewis & Clark State Park, Onawa; Preparation State Park, Loess Hills State Forest and visit the Loess Hills Scenic Byway.
4-H SUMMER CAMPS
FREE Summer Garden Program – Every Wednesday from 9-10:00 a.m. June 5 – August 7, West Monona Elementary. FREE summer gardening series for youth K-12. Learn plant, insect and gardening basics. Plant, harvest and explore nature through gardening. Sample healthy foods fresh from our backyard!
FREE Family Fishing Night – Friday, June 7th 4:30-7:00 p.m., Gray’s Landing near Castana. Grades K-12 (K-3rd accompanied by an adult) Woodmen Life Chapter 649 of Ute, Iowa sponsors the event and FREE fishing equipment will be given to youth participants while supplies last.
Babysitting Workshop – Monday, June 10th 8:30-3:30 p.m., Monona County Extension in Onawa. Grades 4-7, $10 fee learn the important duties of caring for young children. Gain knowledge of CPR, youth development, ages and stages, prepare healthy snacks and more.
FREE Swine Workshop – Tuesday, June 11th 9:00 a.m. – Noon. ISU Western Research Farm near Castana. Grades 4-12 Hands-on workshop to learn showmanship skills. Education about swine nutrition, biosecurity, disease, breeds and more. Biosecurity requirement: Do not attend if you have been on another swine farm within 72 hours prior to this workshop.
Jam-It Workshop-June 13th 1-5:00 p.m., Mapleton Catholic Church. Grades 7-12, $5 for 4-H members/$10 for non-members. Hands-on workshop learning the proper canning techniques for jams and jellies.
4-H Project Workshop – June 20th, 9:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m., Onawa Lutheran Church
Grades 3-12, $10 for 4-H members/$15 for non-members. Build a bird house, bake a pie, and sew walker-tote bags. Set goals and have projects ready for the fair!
Junior Camp – June 26-27th 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m., Camp Nebowa, Blue Lake near Onawa. Grades 3rd-6th, $20 for members/$25 for non-members. Explore the outdoors including fishing, canoeing, and a campfire with your friends. STEM activities, games and more!

Thursday – Saturday: 1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday – Thursday: adult swim 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday after 5:00 p.m. open for pool parties.
PRICES:
Child: $2.00
Adult: $4.00 (18 and older)
Adult Swim: $2.00
Punch Cards: $30 (20 punches)
Family Pass: $125 (4 immediate family members) Additional family members may be added for $25 each.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM
“A Universe of Stories!” will be the theme for the Onawa Summer Reading Program this year. This program is an excellent program to promote reading for pleasure and help them maintain their reading skills during the summer vacation. The programs goal is to motivate children to read for enjoyment, develop positive attitudes about reading and encourage regular use of the Onawa Public Library and its services.
The program will include logging pages, reading, crafts, games, guest speakers and a final party.
The program will meet for the first time on Wednesday, June 5th and there will be 2 official programs during June and July with the final program being August 7. Children who have completed Kindergarten through fourth grade may participate.
Registration begins May 9th at the Summer Extravaganza. Registration will also be available at the Onawa Public Library. PARENTIAL SIGNATURES ARE REQUIRED. Everyone who completes the program by attending at least two programs and reading at least 75 pages will be invited to the final party with certificates, rewards and munchies!
