Thank you for your interest in
Onawa and the surrounding area.
Onawa has several parks with some really awesome playground equipment,
basketball courts and skate park. One of our parks is next to the
Aquatic Center. The Onawa pool has a slide, small children’s pool, and
shade areas.
Next to the Aquatic Center is our museum complex.
The Kiwanis museum complex consists of a caboose, train depot, old
schoolhouse, church, log cabin, and blacksmith shop.
Also within the Onawa museum complex is the Monona County
Historical Museum. The Eskimo Pie originated in Onawa and
they have some of the original equipment.
The Veteran’s Memorial Museum is in the complex. They have static displays of a tank, a helicopter, a half track, and plane with statues of various service members. The interior displays represent all wars Monona County men have served in with quite a bit of memorabilia and historical information. Recently added is a freedom rock.
Onawa is home to the Monona County Fair held each year in mid July. The Onawa Chamber of Commerce hosts various activities throughout the year including a golf outing, a Halloween
Promotion, a Christmas promotion, an Easter Egg Hunt, legislative coffees and a Administrative Professional’s Day Luncheon. Onabike is the Chamber’s annual bike ride through the Loess Hills held the fourth Saturday in August each year.
Onawa KOA campground and American's Best Value Inn Motel in town, located just off of I-29.
The medical community in Onawa consists of Burgess Health Center, Family Medicine
Clinic, Elmwood Care Centre, Premier Estates, Family Focus Chiropractic and Donn Chiropractic.
The Kiwanis Shelter building located at Gaukel Park (next to the Aquatic Center) is available for rent for various sized groups. It has both indoor and outdoor eating facilities, bathrooms, and a functional kitchen. The Onawa Community Center is available for many activities.
